Key Stage 3 Language & KS4 Language and Literature (Edexcel)
Welcome to the English webpage at Sanders School. Here you will find a range of information about curriculum, schemes of learning and our homework schedule. You will also find our surveys, examples of good work and a reading list for both key stages.
In the English team, we are dedicated to the improvement of core literacy skills, including: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Let's take a quick look at the Key Stage 3 Curriculum:
English is built upon a set of core skills in reading and writing from interpretation, analysis and evaluation to writing for different purposes and audiences.
In Years 7 - 8, students study Shakespeare, a modern drama, a 19th century Gothic fiction and a collection of poems and a selection of 19th - 21st century fictions and non - fictions.
We develop their grammar for writing and complete two units of writing based on thematically linked extracts. In developing these grammar skills our students are exposed to a range of rich fiction and non- fiction texts that allows them to draw ideas and information to inform their own writing.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum Yea 9 - Year 11:
There are nine units of work based on a detailed study of Shakespeare, Modern Drama/Prose, 19th Century Fiction, as well as, a detailed study of a Poetry Anthology and a selection of unseen poems. All texts relate to Literature Exams and four units relate to our Language exams.
